The Canadiens, the NHL and Fanatics have unveiled the team’s Hometown Remix jersey, a special-edition uniform built around the fans, the fabric and the culture of Montreal. The Canadiens will wear it 10 times this season, and the first game is Tuesday, November 3, at home against Winnipeg.

What Is Hometown Remix?

Hometown Remix is the first special-edition uniform, apparel and headwear program that includes all 32 NHL teams. Fanatics, the league’s on-ice uniform outfitter, designed it with the NHL and each club, and the league announced the program in August. Every team has its own version, made to celebrate its city and its fans. For the Canadiens, the look is described as a tribute to Montreal’s culture, community and spirit, and it is aimed at the fans of “La Sainte-Flanelle,” the Holy Flannel.

Group CH president France Margaret Bélanger called the design “a bold departure from our traditional designs.” That is the main point for fans: this is not a retro jersey or a small change to the usual look, and it is meant to stand apart from the team’s traditional jerseys.

The Design: Details From Crest to Hem

The jersey is full of Montreal references. The official details are:

Part of the JerseyWhat It Shows
SleevesWhite pine, fleur-de-lys, rose, thistle and clover
CrestEtched architectural detail that recalls the city’s stonework and historic streets
Side panelsA gradient inspired by Mount Royal
NumbersA new number system inspired by the iconography of Old Montreal
HemFour fleur-de-lys that bookend the city name

The sleeves carry the plant symbols (pine, rose, thistle and clover), and the new number style is a detail you will notice on every player.

The team shared video of Cole Caufield trying on the new jersey for the first time. His reaction: “That’s sweet!”

Montreal fans are used to one of the most famous jerseys in sports, so a change like this will split opinions. Do you like it, or would you keep the traditional look? Tell us in the comments, and watch the Canadiens in it on Tuesday night.
