Bowman took over behind the Canadiens bench in 1971 and built one of the greatest dynasties the NHL has ever seen, winning five Stanley Cups in Montreal (1973, 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1979) — including four straight from 1976 to 1979 with a team many still consider the best in league history. He left after the 1978–79 season following a dispute over the GM job, and went on to become the winningest coach in NHL history, but his Canadiens years remain the foundation of his legend.
