Martin St-Louis took over a last-place Canadiens team on February 9, 2022, after Dominique Ducharme was fired, and was rewarded with the full-time job and an extension on June 1, 2022. He has since overseen a rebuild built around player development, an up-tempo, skill-first system, and the growth of young core players such as Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield and Juraj Slafkovský, guiding the team back toward playoff contention. St-Louis is a Hockey Hall of Fame inductee (Class of 2018), but that honor recognizes his NHL playing career — primarily with the Tampa Bay Lightning — and is entirely separate from his Canadiens coaching tenure.
