Cattarinich was the Canadiens' first goaltender in their inaugural 1910 season, but stepped aside after watching a young Georges Vézina play, recommending the club sign Vézina instead. In 1921 he partnered with Léo Dandurand and Louis Létourneau to buy the franchise for $11,000. As part of that ownership trio the Canadiens won three Stanley Cups behind stars like Howie Morenz and Aurel Joliat, before the group sold the team in 1935 for $165,000.
