Working alongside J. Ambrose O'Brien in December 1909, Jimmy Gardner co-founded the Canadiens and is credited by many historians with suggesting the club's name. After helping launch the franchise, he later returned to play for the Canadiens himself in its early NHA seasons. Gardner was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as a player and builder, recognized for his broader contributions to the sport's formative years in Montreal and beyond.
