Selke joined the Canadiens as general manager in 1946 and transformed the organization by building one of the most productive farm systems the sport had ever seen, casting a wide net across Canada instead of relying on one region. That pipeline produced Hall of Famers Jean Béliveau, Dickie Moore and Henri Richard among many others, and powered the Canadiens to five consecutive Stanley Cups from 1956 to 1960 — still an NHL record. The trophy given annually to the league's best defensive forward carries his name.
